The Power of Skills: Sharmila’s Journey to Financial Independence
Growing up in Garulia, a small town in West Bengal, Sharmila Malo saw her mother work tirelessly as a daily wage laborer to provide for her and her elder brother. Opportunities were there—but for her family, financial struggles often put them out of reach.
After finishing Class 12, Sharmila was determined to contribute to her family’s income. Yet, without formal training or industry-ready skills, finding the kind of job she dreamed of remained a challenge.
That’s when she joined Generation India’s Food & Beverage program. “Everything I learned in this course was new to me,” she recalls. “From communication and behavioral skills to presenting myself with confidence—it completely changed how I saw my potential.”
Guided by mentors, Sharmila not only learned new skills but also transformed her mindset. She emerged more confident, responsible, and focused on her goals.
Soon after graduating, she secured a position at one of the largest F&B chains—a milestone that brought financial stability to her life. Today, Sharmila supports her family independently and is positive about her career growth.
