How Kratika Soni Built a New Career Path Through Skills

FROM THEN TO NOW
Kratika Soni | Jaipur
Retail Sales Associate (RSA) program graduate (2022 Cohort)
Kratika Soni grew up in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where her father worked as an electrician to provide for the family. She was unable to continue her education after completing Class 12 due to financial constraints, but she was still looking for a career that would allow her to provide for her family.
“In our area, opportunities and information reach late, if at all,” she recalls. “I knew I had to work, but I didn’t know where to start.”
For more than a year, she applied for jobs, only to face rejections. Employers cited her lack of experience, skills, or formal qualifications. “I started believing I wasn’t good enough,” she admits.
A Turning Point: Discovering Generation India
A friend introduced her to Generation India’s Retail Sales Associate program. Skeptical but hopeful, Kratika enrolled, expecting just another training course.
“I thought it would be basic training, but it was so much more,” she says. “After the training, for the first time, I felt prepared, not just for a job, but for a career.”
Transformation: From Struggle to Stability
After completing the program, Kratika secured a position as a Sales Executive at Samsung India. Today, she works with Haier, applying the skills she learned daily.
“Earlier, I took whatever work came my way. Now, I have a direction,” she says. “I track my performance, set goals, and know I can grow further.”
Alongside her job, she is completing her graduation through distance education, a dream she refused to abandon.
“I used to think only degrees led to success,” she says. “Now I know skills and determination matter just as much.”
Looking Ahead
Kratika now aspires to move into a managerial role. “I’ve seen how far I can go when I keep learning.”
