From Farmland to Full Stack: Kundan Patil’s Journey to a Tech Career

From Rural Roots to Ambitions in Tech
Kundan Patil grew up in the quiet village of Jambhali, Maharashtra, where his family depended on farming and his father’s daily wage work to make ends meet. With limited financial resources and few role models in the tech industry, Kundan’s aspiration to pursue a career in IT wasn’t easy, but not impossible.
“I always wanted to do something that would make my family proud,” he says. “Even though we didn’t have much, my parents never let that stop me from dreaming bigger.”
After finishing his Computer Science degree, Kundan was ready to begin his career. Like many fresh graduates, he realised that finding the right job would require more than just a degree; it also meant developing the right skills.
A Turning Point with Generation India
Kundan’s outlook changed when he came across the Junior Full Stack Java Developer (JFSJD) program offered by Generation India Foundation. Encouraged by its industry-relevant curriculum, he enrolled in the course.
“I joined with hope, but also some fear,” he recalls. Instead, Kundan found an experience that reshaped his approach to both learning and life. The programme offered more than technical knowledge. Through intensive training in Java, SQL, and web development, along with daily standups, group discussions, and mock interviews, Kundan gained both hard skills and confidence.
“This programme changed how I think about my career,” he shares. “For the first time, I felt truly job-ready.”
From Learner to Tech Professional
Within a short span, Kundan’s persistence paid off. He landed a role as a Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Mumbai, a milestone not just for him, but for his entire family.
“The stability this job brings has made a real difference in our lives,” Kundan says. “I’m now able to support my parents and younger siblings, and that means everything.”
Today, Kundan continues to thrive in his role, combining the foundation he built at Generation India with the curiosity and work ethic that took root back in his village.
Looking Ahead
Kundan sees himself growing into a senior role in the IT industry and hopes to give back by guiding young learners from similar backgrounds.
His message to others?
“Don’t give up—especially if you feel stuck. The right training and support can unlock your potential. For me, Generation India was that turning point.”
