Anurag Singh – Powering His Future, and India
“I see my job not just as employment, but as my way of contributing to a greener future.”
— Anurag Singh, Generation India Learner
Anurag Singh, from Chhapra district in Bihar, is the eldest son in a modest family. Like many in rural India, he grew up with limited opportunities and significant responsibilities. “I had to drop out after Class 12 due to financial difficulties,” he shares. “It was hard to even imagine a stable job.”
For months, Anurag searched for work, often feeling stuck and overwhelmed. With no clear direction and rising family pressure, he struggled with self-doubt. “There were times I didn’t know where to begin. I didn’t feel qualified, and our financial situation didn’t make it easy.”
A friend told him about Generation India’s Solar PV Installer programme, and things began to shift. He enrolled, joining several others from his region. Although the training centre was 11 kilometres from his home, he made the daily commute with determination. “I saw this as a real opportunity,” he says.
Over the 9-week in-person training, Anurag gained hands-on skills in solar panel installation, maintenance, and safety, along with soft skills like discipline and communication. “The trainers and staff were always there, especially during placement preparation. That kept me focused and hopeful.”
After completing the programme, Anurag was placed with Mundra Solar Pvt. Ltd. in Gujarat, where he now works in the maintenance department, overseeing solar installations and ensuring smooth operations. “Now I earn a steady income and support my father. My siblings, who had to pause their education, are back in school; that’s what I’m proudest of.”
Looking ahead, Anurag is eager to grow in the solar energy sector. “There’s a clear path forward here, and I want to keep learning and upgrading my skills.”
His journey is proof that sustainability isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about transforming the way we work, think, and grow. With the right skills and support, young people like Anurag are not only securing meaningful employment, but they’re also helping build a greener India, one solar panel at a time.
